Almost Famous
AroView: Arguably the best music drama yet committed to film (SPINAL TAP was a comedy), this is a vibrant and bracingly assured portrait of rock music fanaticism in the early 70s.
Although it follows the exploits of a fictitious band, it draws authentic inspiration from the writer/director’s own experience as a journo for Rolling Stone magazine on tour with The Allman Brothers. Rose-coloured it may be, but consistently first-rate performances match a conviction in the writing and directing that signifies a film-maker both in love with his material and at the height of his craft.
