A Little Something Extra
AroView: A massive hit in its native France, this is the debut feature of standup comedian Artus, who casts himself as the accomplice son of a hardened jewel thief who find unlikely refuge at a holiday camp for the disabled.
There’s some necessary discomfort in this scenario as societal prejudice is used for comic effect, even if the disabled cast members are in on the jokes. But have no fear, this is a crowd-pleaser, and the film has an open heart to match its big grin, with the group emerging as disarmingly beautiful individuals while the neurotypical people struggle to get over themselves.
“Reminiscent of riotous French comedies such as Welcome to the Sticks, A Little Something Extra is sure to have the whole cinema in hysterics.” ~ Jordan Salomen, NZIFF
“Un p’tit plus en plus establishes a complicity between the fake invalid and the real handicapped. The rest of the film is both inflated, funny and very touching.” ~ Catherine Balle, Le Parisien
