Whisky Galore! (1949)

When villagers on a dry Scottish isle ‘rescue’ a cargo of shipwrecked whiskey, a classic Ealing comedy ensues. Generous doses of sly humour help this go down very well!

Based on the true story of a ship that sunk in 1941 outside Eriskay, The Outer Hebrides, in bad weather, containing 250,000 bottles of whisky. The locals gathered as many bottles as they could, before the authorities arrived, and even today, bottles are found in the sand or in the sea every other year.
