This Filthy World
AroView: Scholar of bad taste, John Waters, extols the virtues of filth in this stand-up routine-meets-film lecture dedicated largely to his own degenerative filmmaking oeuvre.
In addition to an always-bawdy sense of humour, displayed is an infectious appreciation of cinema, namely for the films that influenced Water’s underground startup and subsequent fringe Hollywood career. Though padded out with backstage stories that have historically been the domain of DVD special features, these are never rudimentary (subjects broached include Divine, film censorship, smell-o-vision, and gay discourse), and gain extra zest through Waters’ oratory flair, a great talker and storyteller in his own right.
