The Young Victoria
Director Jean-Marc Vallée (BIG LITTLE LIES) takes the helm for this look at the turbulent early years of Queen Victoria (Emily Blunt), who was crowned at the age of 18, and whose ill-fated marriage to Prince Albert would later prompt her into a life of mournful seclusion.
Doesn’t present any significant new insights into a figure of such high mystique, and the film becomes a near-gushing tribute in the third act, but the historical eye-candy is to die for, and with the right young woman in the role, this is sure to appeal to a wealth of loyal subjects.
Written by Julian Fellowes (GOSFORD PARK, DOWNTON ABBEY).
