The Red Balloon

34m Family, Drama 1956

AroView: Classic French short that still manages to captivate audiences with its simple premise of a young Parisian boy who discovers a red balloon with a mind of its own determined to follow him around.

This Academy Award winner for ‘Best Original Screenplay’ benefits from very little dialogue and simply allows the evocative imagery set largely against the backdrop of the now totally destroyed streets of Belleville, Paris to speak for itself. Its uncluttered storyline alludes to a sense of innate symbolism brought effectively to life through the eyes of innocence.
