The Last Emperor
AroView: Grand scale interpretation of the true life of Pu Yi (John Lone), the last emperor of China, that won nine Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director for Bernardo Bertolucci, and for the resplendent cinematography of industry legend Vittorio Storaro.
The film charts Pu Yi’s elite origins in the Forbidden City, where a new English tutor (Peter O’Toole) opens his young mind to the outside world, to his forced abdication in 1912, and his return to the throne under Japanese rule. Intertwined with the history of modern-day China, the story continues with the once-privileged emperor living a working-class life under communist rule.
