AroView: A vivid and enjoyable recreation of the chaos behind a historic night in American television history in 1975 - the birth of the legendary live sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live.
Though it never aired in New Zealand, it is still famously recognized as the launching pad for the careers of Jim Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Billy Crystal, Jane Curtin, Andy Kaufman and George Carlin, each of whom are impressively impersonated by a terrific ensemble cast who swirl around the show’s creator, a 30-year-old Lorne Michaels, on the countdown to going live at 11.30pm.
Organic and loose in the spirit of SNL, and fabulously shot on 16mm, the filmmakers go to great lengths to install an authentic retro vibe that celebrates youthful bravado and a genuine changing of the guard in popular culture.
