Menashe
AroView: A charming observational drama set in a Hassidic neighborhood in Brooklyn, and shot entirely in Yiddish. Menashe is a struggling grocery store clerk who is given one week to prove to the local rabbi that he is fit to raise his son alone, in the wake of his wife’s death. Challenging Orthodox Jewish religion, he sets out to prove himself. A gentle, thought-provoking film about parenthood which is of considerable ethnographic interest, set in a close-knit and often overlooked community.
“A warm, relatable and tender tale about parental love, religion and belonging, told humanely and with vivid authenticity.” ~ Claudia Puig, The Wrap.
