Marie's Story
Drama based on the true story of Marie Heurtin (1885–1921), a girl who was born deaf and blind in late 19th century France to a humble artisan and his wife.
The desperate parents send her to an order of Catholic nuns manage a school for deaf girls, where the idealistic Sister Marguerite sees her unique potential and vows to bring the wild girl out of the darkness into which she was born.
“To play Marie today, Améris found the non-actor Ariana Rivoire at the Institute for the Deaf. And Rivoire is a revelation — showing what it’s like to be in, and then break out of, a world of total darkness and silence.” ~Village Voice
