Man on Wire

AroView: Oscar-winning doco about a truly remarkable, one-of-a-kind subject; a cavalier French daredevil called Phillipe Petit who in 1974 persuaded a team of conspirators to help him covertly cross on a tightrope between New York’s twin towers.

Focusing on a stunt that is mindboggling by all accounts, and yet one that largely slipped under the publicity radar, one could be forgiven for suspecting this is a hoax, or that it recalls like some kind of collective dream. A paean to the notion of ‘risk’ and its inexorable place in the human spirit, this film just might encourage viewers to take a leap of faith of their own, though its hard to imagine anything comparing to this.
