A Kid Like Jake

1h 29m Drama, LGBT+ 2018

Aroview: Claire Danes and Jim Parsons play a Brooklyn couple who are forced to rethink their roles as parents and spouses when their four-year-old son exhibits a preference for fairy-tale princesses over toy cars, and are told that it may be more than a phase.

Though criticised for its lack of focus on the kid called ‘Jake’ himself, it is directed with sensitivity by Silas Howard, who himself is trans.

“It might not be especially cinematic, but it is profound in its simplicity and truthfulness about what real fights sound like and what real lives look like.” ~ASSOCIATED PRESS
