Came a Hot Friday
Billy T. James stars in this comic yarn about a pair of inept bookmakers whose greed leads them to losing (and trying to recoup) their ill-gotten earnings. Set in small-town NZ in 1949 against a background of horse racing, gambling and fast cars, with comic legend Billy T making great use of his trademark giggle as the Tainui Kid, a Māori who believes himself to be a Mexican bandito. Based on the novel of the same name by Ronald Hugh Morrieson.
“Came a Hot Friday carries no spare fat, but rattles along with the pace of the best American screwball comedies of the ‘30s.” ~ Nicholas Reid.
