You Only Live Once

AroView: An awesome early film noir from director Fritz Lang, with Henry Fonda playing a career criminal determined to go straight, but compelled by fate into murdering a prison priest fleeing with his ever-faithful girlfriend (Sylvia Sidney).

Ambitious and gripping throughout, this works on several levels and despite the anti-heroes’ constant and sweaty desperation even concludes with a spiritual coda.
