Echo in the Canyon

1h 29m Documentary, Music 2018

AroView: Jakob Dylan (son of Bob) is the front-man of this documentary about the revolutionary Laurel Canyon music scene in the mid-60’s, and he manages to secure a formidable roster of original artists to reflect on the scene, including Brian Wilson, Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Steven Stills, Graham Nash, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Jackson Browne, Michelle Phillips and Tom Petty.

To celebrate the collective legacy of such bands as The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds and The Mamas & The Papas, Dylan assembles some famous friends of a younger generation that include Beck, Cat Power, Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple and Nora Jones, to discuss and to accompany him in performing a tribute concert.

Inspired by the 1967 movie, “Model Shop”, director Andrew Slater, a former chief exec of Capitol Records, is Dylan’s co-conspirator in this distinctly subjective take on the subject, a complement to the more substantive documentary, LAUREL CANYON, from 2020.

“I have a feeling Echo in the Canyon will be watched for decades into the future as the essential document of a very specific time and place that changed music forever.” ~Andy Howell, FILM THREAT
