You’ll savour each moment as not-so-innocent Fred MacMurray is lured into Barbara Stanwyck’s web of murder and fraud, raising a suspicious, delicious eyebrow of insurance wonk Edward G. Robinson. The screen chemistry of the actors is palpable, Raymond Chandler’s dialogue is magical (based on the novel by James M. Cain) and Billy Wilder’s direction simply exquisite. A masterpiece.
